KREMSMUENSTER, Austria — Koenigseder, the Austrian tuner, boasts an eclectic portfolio that includes the Chevrolet HHR, the Dodge Challenger and the Smart Fortwo. At the big Essen tuning show in Germany last December, the firm announced an even more ambitious project: an upgrade kit for the Porsche Carrera GT, which went out of production in 2006.

Now its Carrera GT makeover is finally hitting the street. While mechanicals remain largely intact, Koenigseder has added a set of alloy wheels and a performance exhaust system. But the primary focus was on cosmetics.

The tuner has fitted revised front and rear bumpers, including a new rear diffuser, as well as more prominent side skirts, roof air intakes and a massive fixed rear wing. The package price for the full body kit is $32,800, plus applicable taxes. A set of wool carpets adds $1,950.

Inside Line says: Compared with the original Carrera GT’s nearly half-million-dollar sticker, the Koenigseder kit looks like a relative bargain. — Paul Lienert, Correspondent
